I love apple but i wasn’t an apple user until i got my first macbook pro just three years ago (still using it). I converted because Windows sucked. I was fed up with XP getting slower and slower and needing a re-install every year or two. Â Before buying a mac i also gave ubuntu a go. Â I loved i could customize it as much as i liked but it was still too much work to really operate it.
Now i have a macbook pro, iphone 2g, iphone 3gs, ipad and perhaps a iphone 4 soon as well. Is apple flawless? absolutely not. Â Their products are pricey (although the intangible value they have makes up for it, ie. no virus) and they are slow to upgrade (no USB 3 on their new macbook pros)
I use to love sony products the same way back in the 90s. Â they had the coolest designs and branding was superb. Â Qubric anyone? Â Now they just suck. Â One step into both their flagships stores in Ginza, Tokyo and you can feel the difference. Â No matter how cool you were in the 90s, if you stay that way you are still old fashioned. Â Old fashioned and not vintage nor retro.. there is a difference.Â
Sony still makes many very cool concept product that it demos, but no one cares about concepts now, we want real products that we can buy nor those super expensive cool products like Sony’s ill fated qualia line.
I believe sony started dropping the ball with the transition of discman/minidisc to mp3. Naturally it had a conflict of interest with mp3 and its record business, but it wasn;t only its hardware its software nor product design has improved since the 90s.
Gizmodo has a whole section devoted to the fall of sony and this recent article about sony’s E3 offerings losing out in all grounds to nintendo and microsoft shows that even its gaming business is failingÂ
